Fire Prevention

fire_smokedet.gifThe proper placement of your smoke detectors is important. There should be at least one detector on every level of the house. Current building codes require one in every sleeping room and also one outside of the sleeping areas in the hall.

9v.gifTo be sure that the batteries are always fresh, you should replace them each time your clocks are reset due to daylight saving time;

WHEN YOU CHANGE YOUR CLOCK, CHANGE YOUR SMOKE DETECTOR BATTERIES!

Some Statistics

fireext.jpgDo you know where most residential fires start in the average home? If you guessed the kitchen, you are absolutely correct. It would logically follow then, that cooking, or rather the non-attention to cooking, is the leading cause of these fires. 37% of all residential fires originate in the kitchen. 31% of fires involving a fatality occur in common living areas such as in the living room or den. One of the most often reported causes contributing to these fatalities is impairment by alcohol.

Please don't be one of these statistics.

Look around the house and check for any fire or safety hazards you might find. If you would prefer, you may request an inspection by the Fire Marshal's office. Call 407-327-7564 to set up an appointment for a fire and safety check-up.

Should you ever experience the trauma of a major fire in your home, to help make sure you get out alive, it is a very good idea to have a practice fire drill occasionally. Make sure everyone knows at least two ways out of every area of the house. Once everyone is safely outside, you should go to a neighbor's house to call the fire department.

AND REMEMBER, NEVER, NEVER GO BACK INSIDE FOR ANY REASON! When the firefighters arrive, let them know that everyone is out of the house!

Material things can always be replaced, but the life of a loved one cannot.
