Crime Prevention Programs
The Crime Prevention Unit has a variety of programs available to the residents of Winter Springs. The goal of the Police Department is to assist the people to better prepare themselves with the help of these prevention and awareness programs, to reduce the risk of becoming a victim and improve their quality of life. Crime Prevention and public awareness are essential tools in reducing the crime rate in our communities. Through general knowledge and personal awareness, every individual should have the ability to assist the Police Department in successfully combating crime. The following programs are available to help you, your family, and your community.
This program allows those living alone an important link to Law Enforcement daily. We call you at the same time, convenient to you, every day. If you do not answer after 3 calls, an officer is sent to check on your well being. Contact the Winter Springs Police Department to join the program.
Help establish a program in your business community. This program will help reduce crime and the fear of crime. We will teach you how to observe and report suspicious activity and crimes in progress. We can also assist your business and employees with a Retail Theft or Robbery Prevention program.
These programs include Stranger Danger, Bicycle and Helmet safety, Computer Safety, and Department tours.
Need a speaker for your club or organization? Call and ask a Crime Prevention expert to address your group on all aspects of personal safety and crime prevention. This informative and educational program is well received.
Call to have a certified Crime Prevention Officer conduct a FREE CONFIDENTIAL security check of your home or business. Items that will be checked include locks, deadbolts, shrubbery, windows, and lighting. Allow us to help make your home or business a "TOUGH TARGET."
Going out of town soon? Fill out the House Check Request Form to request a Winter Springs police officer stop by and check on your home while you're away.
The Lock Box Program is intended to provide Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) access to your residence in the event of an emergency where you are unable to open the door. A key to your residence will be stored in a secure metal storage device, similar to a realtor's lockbox, near the entrance to your residence. The access code to the lockbox will only be available to Police, Fire or EMS personnel and used only during an emergency.
The purpose of this form is to provide an easily accessible method for First Responders to access important medical information upon their arrival to a scene. The form consists of an informational card that you fill out that contains pertinent medical information. This card is then placed in the supplied brightly colored magnetic pouch and placed in a highly visible area of your home. The pouches and initial cards can be picked up from the Winter Springs Police Department or by contacting a Community Services Officer at 407-327-6561. Cards can also be downloaded by clicking the PDF link below, therefore allowing you to update information as often as necessary.
A drug amnesty drop box has been placed in the lobby of the Winter Springs Police Department which will allow you to drop off any unwanted medications 24 hours a day 7 days a week with no questions asked. This will provide an opportunity for the citizens to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications for proper destruction. These types of drugs are a potential risk to public health and safety and the police department is committed to the safe disposal of these drugs.
