Perk up Parks Initiative
Focusing on improving City parks and play-areas to strengthen our community and the overall quality of life.
One of the most exceptional characteristics of Winter Springs is our green spaces and City parks. The initiative aims to provide quality community assets to Winter Springs residents with a pavilion that can host large community events and upgraded playgrounds at the following seven parks: Moss Park, Ranchlands Park, Sam Smith Memorial Park, Winding Hollow Park, Central Winds Park, Trotwood Park, and Torcaso Park.
A notable project of this initative was the Pamela A. Carroll Memorial Pavilion at Trotwood Park. The pavilion is dedicated to the late Commissioner Pam Carroll who passed away in February 2018. The construction of the structure concluded in March but will include final touches such as a stone pier overlooking the pond and rocky-mountain landscaping to complement the log pavilion. The goal for this project is to develop a new venue that will host family, corporate, and community functions while overlooking the beautiful Trotwood pond.
In January 2016, the City Commission discussed creating a master plan to upgrade playground equipment that would grow to be the Perks up Parks Initiative. Of the six playgrounds included in the Perk up Parks’ plan, Moss Park, Sam Smith Memorial Park, Winding Hollow Park’s playgrounds have been finished. The next playground due for construction is located in Central Winds Park. The City plans to begin construction in May. Currently, the goal is to complete the last project of the initiative by fall 2019.
The mission of the Perks up Perks Initiative to strengthen our community and the quality of life aligns with the City Commission’s values, as well as the City’s belief in the importance of play.
