November 2021: Drowsy Driving Protection
With the holidays around the corner, more people will be on the roads traveling to visit with friends and family. With long drives comes an inherent risk of becoming drowsy. Drowsy driving is a significant contributor to motor vehicle collisions. According to the Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA), in 2017, drowsy driving caused at least 91,000 crashes, resulting in about 50,000 injuries and 800 fatalities.
Tips to avoid drowsy driving
Break trip up into smaller segments
Avoid driving during the drowsiest times of the day
Get a good night's sleep
Allocate time for rest
Avoid alcohol and other sedatives
Split driving duties between you and travel companion(s)
Drowsy driving is a form of impaired driving; if you feel drowsy while driving, look for the nearest opportunity to stop and rest.
