Creek Debris Removal

This is where the City of Winter Springs will provide updates about the progress of large-scale debris creek cleanup throughout the City 


Thanks to a grant from the Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS), Looks Great Services of Columbia, Mississippi, has finished the essential task of clearing debris from five separate creeks to restore functionality and improve the smooth flow of stormwater throughout the City.

Under the terms of the grant, the NRCS will contribute up to 75% of the project's total cost, with the City covering the remaining 25%. The project will start with work along Gee Creek, followed by Bear, Howell, No Name, and Sheoah Creeks.

In all, Looks Great Services removed 24,130 linear feet of fallen trees and roots from all five of the City's creeks.

That is the equivalent of 4.5 miles.

In all, the project was completed in just under 52 days at a cost of $276,760.


 

Debris Removal at Gee Creek

Week of August 8, 2023

Full scale large debris removal began along Gee Creek near Moss Park with crews removing several downed trees from the waterways.

Residents should expect to see crews working in and around the area of Gee Creek over several days as the make their way east.

Tree Removal near Hacienda Village

Week of August 14, 2023

Crews completed the first full week of large-scale debris removal along Gee Creek near Hacienda Village and up to Hayes Road.

In the first week crews with Looks Great Services removed over 4,800 linear feet of fallen trees, roots and other debris in the area from Moss Road to Hayes Road.

Work will now progress to the east along Gee Creek at Shore Road and head north towards Alton Road.

Week of August 21, 2023

As crews enter their third week of clean-up work, has now moved to Bear Creek on the east side of the City.

On Monday, August 21, 2023, crews finished clearing areas along Gee, No Name, and Sheoah Creeks, removing over 800 yards of debris and hauling it out of the creek beds.

On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, crews with Looks Great Services began work on Bear Creek near Woodchuck Court, moving south towards Winter Springs Boulevard with plans to have a second crew begin the process heading north.

Bear Creek Clean up continues

Week of August 28, 2023

Citywide large-scale debris operations continue along Bear and Howell Creeks with crews moving to the northeastern parts of the City.   

Crews with Looks Great Services finished the southern portion of Bear Creek operations on Sunday August 27,  2023. 

On Monday, August 28, 2023, workers renewed efforts in anticipation of severe weather from Idalia and will continue working as long as weather permits. 

Howell Creek debris cleanup begins

Week of September 4, 2023

On Tuesday, September 5, 2023, crews began work on Howell Creek near the Northern Way bridge. This stretch of clean-up is the last segment of the project, with teams set to clear approximately 7,700 linear feet of debris from the Winter Springs portions of Howell Creek. 

To date, Looks Great Services has cleared just over 17,000 linear feet or roughly three miles of debris from the five creeks within the City.

Crews hope to complete the remaining debris cleanup by the end of September. 

 

Howell Creek Cleanup part 2

Week of September 11, 2023

On September 11, 2023, crews continued progressing on large-scale debris removal from Howell Creek. This week, crews began moving north of the Howell Creek Bridge Trestle near the Cross Seminole Trail. 

Crews estimate completing this last segment of Howell Creek by the end of September, weather permitting. 

Bear Creek Cleanup part 2

Week of September 18, 2023

Since August, Looks Great Services has been working on large-scale debris removal from all five creeks within the city. 

Over the past three weeks, crews have focused on the City's eastern portion, namely Howell and Bear Creeks. 

Work has been steadily progressing over the most significant segments of the project and with over 6,000 linear feet of debris already clear the remainder is expected to be cleared by the end of the month early October.   
 

Howell Creek Cleanup part 3

Week of September 25, 2023

Looks Great Services is now in the final stages of large-scale debris removal from city creeks. 

This week  crews have been working on the portion of Howell Creek just north of the Howell Creek Bridge Trestle.

In all Looks Great Services will have removed 24,130 linear feet of fallen trees and roots from all five of the City's creeks in just under 52 days.
